In recent years many people are coming into Meher Clinic feeling very burnt out. The pace of life keeps going up a few notches almost daily. We seem to have no control over the activities that we become involved in. We see mothers managing the home, their children’s lives (transport to school, football, dancing, meetings, etc., etc., etc…), holding down a job and studying for a degree! It is as if these activities reach out and grab us.
Time seems to be going so fast (it is July already-who stole the time?), even children talk about how fast time goes by. There are many theories but it is our observation that the more things we are doing the faster time seems to move. There are no signs of any relief from this speeding up process, it is becoming more intense.
SO WHAT IS THE REMEDY? To help survive this intensity of life, here are some of Meher Clinic’s suggestions:
Time should be taken out for some self nurturing. Try to make some time each day away from your daily activities, even if it means getting up a bit earlier to do this. Here are some of the things you could do:
- Go for a walk, especially on the beach or in a forest. Regular fast walking or exercise is very good for your health and sense of well being.
- Watch a sunrise or sunset.
- Put some ear phones on and listen to some music you love and escape for awhile.
- See a movie or do some window shopping.
- Have a massage, many people find having a treatment in our clinic to be very relaxing.
- Learn some techniques for relaxation and/or meditation. (Meher Clinic has for sale some very good CDs that use binaural sound to put you into a deep relaxed state.)
- Reconnect with that place of great beauty deep inside you, where you can be in touch with your real self. This place is within everyone, sometimes we just forget.
- How about your parents or friends looking after the kids so that you and your partner can have a romantic time together or go away for the weekend or have a real holiday?
- Think carefully before taking on new projects, do you really have the time and resources?
- Do you need to shed of some of your present work load?
- Just do whatever is beneficial and nurturing for you, and make the time for yourself. It is important to be disciplined and make a regular routine of setting this time aside for yourself.
THERE ARE OTHER REASONS FOR TIREDNESS, SOME COMMON CAUSES ARE LISTED BELOW:
1. Anaemia -this can be Iron or Vitamin B12 deficiency, in Chinese medicine Blood deficiency which can also mean a low circulating blood volume. This can be caused by heavy menstrual bleeding & dehydration
2. Hypothyroidism-low thyroxine production or inadequate body response to thyroxine.
3. Hypoglycaemia- low blood sugar: you may feel tired, shaky or have a headache if you miss a meal.
4. Overwork or overload (as talked about above).
5. Emotional stress/trauma/grief/depression/anxiety.
6. Irritable/inflamed bowel, this can cause a lack of absorption of nutrients from food.
7. Menopause or hormonal imbalance- can take away your get up and go.
8. Insomnia – acupuncture helps reset the body clock.
9. Medications. Some medications, including beta blockers and antihistamines and anti-cholesterol drugs can cause fatigue or just make you feel flat.
10. Chronic latent viruses. These viruses are a major cause of what is commonly called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.).These viruses can include Glandular Fever(Epstein-Barr), Ross River Fever, Parvo, Barmah Forrest, Dengue, Cytomegalo, Coxackie and others. Recent studies show that 60% of C.F.S. sufferers test positive for a type of organism which also resembles a virus & bacteria and is called Mycoplasma. Additional symptoms that can accompany C.F.S. include joint pains (as seen in Ross River Fever & with Barmah Forrest virus), and/or muscle pains which can be Fibromyalgia or the inflammatory version -Polymyalgia rheumatica. These pains can be severe and debilitating. A toxin from a type of Staphylococcus bacteria has recently been implicated in causing joint and muscle pains.

Our treatment for Chronic Fatigue including Glandular Fever and Ross River fever is especially effective with a greater than 90% success rate. We use anti-viral herbs together with anti-bacterial herbs, homeopathic medicines and/or acupuncture for a good result.
